“With the ANNETT4TETT project the jazz and improvisational vocalist Annette Giesriegl introduces a highly interesting young ensemble:
particularly BEMERKENSWERT as a result of the renowned RENOMMIERT colleagues Annette – amongst other work known as duet partner of the Vocal Summit singer Jay Clayton, frontwoman of the group Wibschma – managed to bring together:
Pianist / Keyboard player Stefan Heckel lived and worked in London for three years and since then has been touring regularly with such musicians as the saxophonist Julian Argüelles.
Bassist Karl Sayer, accompanist of numerous international jazz soloists, and has worked on projects with artists including Wolfgang Puschnig, Dr. Kurt Ostbahn, Myra Melford and the drummer Idris Muhammad, amongst others. And Ingrid Oberkanins has drummed up particular merit and renown as drummer and percussionist with the Vienna Art Orchestra.
But in all this, Annett4tett – just like the VAO – is in no way a “pure” jazz formation: it is rather the case, in both ensembles, that there is an openness for wide-ranging influences and directions that meld together to form a formidable breadth of musical moods. Ingrid, with her percussive palate spreading through a diverse and colourful, highly rhythmically accurate ethnic mix, is not the only member of the ensemble who ensures this is so. The entire formation’s “togetherness”, based on the individual members’ high musical ability, makes the ensuing qualitative expectations of the group as a whole self-explanatory:
The brilliant soloists Heckel and Sayer are equally versed in heavy grooving on the one hand and atmospheric, pointed and tasteful group playing on the other. And Annette is not only fluent in jazz techniques but can articulate her music on a wide range of levels that illustrate her personal expression of human emotion, as the personification and embodiment of a lonely woman, exploding with incredible directness in compelling ecstatic eruptions. As well-versed balladic storyteller, who subversively exposes the romance of the tale as a nutshell concealing a profound centre. As an agile, temperamental “syllabic” soloist. Or as an improvisational artist employing vocal and technical expressive techniques firmly rooted in the 21st century.
ANNETT4TETT´s first CD "hear i am" was released by Extraplatte in October 2003!

Annette Giesriegl and her band, who have been playing together for two years, have released their first CD, "hear i am".
The pieces on the CD are rooted in jazz and associated genres and include new compositions with an Indian touch that give voice to Annette’s study of Indian singing in London, which she has integrated in her compositional style.
„Mastermind“ Stefan Heckel on keyboards, Karl Sayer on the bass and Ingrid Oberkanins on percussion are deeply involved in the creation of unique arrangements, improvisational elements, grooves and a bit of trash.
"In the course of intensive rehearsals we increasingly found the way to our unique sound, to the extent, I think, that if someone listens to us play, we are recognizable as the ANNETT4TETT", postulates Annette Giesriegl.
The CD is a complete success and deserves a place in every music collection with an interest in contemporary vocal jazz!

Bemerkenswert nicht zuletzt auch aufgrund der renommierten KollegInnen,

Dr. Kurt Ostbahn; Myra Melford und dem Schlagzeuger Idris Muhammad verweisen.
Und Ingrid Oberkanins hat sich (insbesondere)
als Drummer-/Percussionistin des Vienna Art Orchestra höchste Meriten
ertrommelt.
Dabei ist Annett4tett - ebenso wie das VAO - keineswegs eine "reine"
Jazzformation: Angesagt sind vielmehr - hier wie dort - Offenheit für
verschiedenste Einflüsse, die zu einer formidablen Bandbreite an
musikalischen Stimmungen verschmelzen. Dafür bürgt nicht nur
Ingrid mit ihrer ethnisch vielfältigen, farbenreich-akkuraten Percussionspalette,
sondern auch die "togetherness" und der hochgesteckte musikalische
Anspruch der Formation, der bei der Könnerschaft aller Beteiligten
nur natürlich erscheinen kann:
Die brillianten Solisten Heckel und Sayer können gleichermaßen
energisch zupackend grooven wie atmosphärisch-pointiert und geschmackvoll
(mit)gestalten. Und Annette verfügt nicht nur über die Sprache
des Jazz, sondern vermag ihre Botschaften auch über viel weitgespanntere
Ebenen, nämlich die ihrer so persönlich-menschlich geprägten
Expressivität zu artikulieren: Als die gestaltgewordene Elegie einer
einsamen Frau, die ebenso unvermittelt wie zwingend in ekstatische Ausbrüche
explodiert. Als versierte balladeske Erzählerin, die soeben erzeugte
Romantik hintersinnig als Stimmungs-Hülse bloßlegt.
Als wendige, temperamentvolle Silbensolistin. Oder auch als Improvisatorin
mit stimmlich-technischen (Ausdrucks-)Mitteln des 21. Jahrhunderts.

Annette
Giesriegl produziert nach zweijährigem Bestehen die erste CD ihrer
Band, betitelt mit "hear i am".
Darauf zu hören sind Stücke aus Jazz und den angrenzenden Stilrichtungen,
wie auch Eigenkompositionen, unter anderem fliesst auch etwas indischer
Touch ein, den sich Annette bei ihrem Londonaufenthalt, wo sie indischen
Gesang studierte, einverleibt hat.
Für eigenwillige Arrangements, improvisatorische Elemente, Groove
und einen Hauch von Trash zeigen sich "Mastermind" Stefan Heckel
an den Keys, Karl Sayer am Bass und Ingrid Oberkanins on Percussion höchstgradig
mitverantwortlich!
"Wir haben nach intensiven Probenphasen mehr und mehr zu unserem
Sound gefunden, sodass wir, glaube ich, als ANNETT4TETT erkennbar sind,
wenn uns jemand hört", so Annette Giesriegl.
Die CD ist absolut gelungen und gehört ins Archiv jedes Haushaltes,
der an modernem Vokaljazz interessiert ist!
